I spent half a year in Hong Kong,
where I became closely acquainted with a mainland Chinese guy.
He provided me with insight into this grotesque world where children grow up in institutionalized captivity , where propaganda permeates everything, and where the disappearance of people is an everyday occurrence. “The Middle of the World,” is a lyrical documentation of these sensations. Through the series of photographs, I capture and provide a glimpse into the reality that propaganda conceals. The goal of the series is for viewers to also look into a world where oppression and hope, the desire for freedom and despair coexist side by side.
